Chocorua Lake Conservancy Annual Meeting—via Zoom

Safe drinking water for the Chocorua area, land conservation and stewardship, public access, and a chance to say hello to people near and far who love the Chocorua Lake Basin!

On Thursday, August 13 from 5-6:30PM, we invite you all to join us via Zoom for our Annual Meeting with keynote speakers Dr. Bob Newton, Professor of Geosciences at Smith College, and Tara Schroeder of Green Mountain Conservation Group (GMCG). Learn about the recent work of the CLC, have a chance to talk to the Board of Directors, and hear about recent research on the Ossipee Aquifer, which supplies 80 percent of the region’s drinking water.

Speakers Dr. Bob Newton and Tara Schroeder will present “Ensuring Drinking Water Quality in the Ossipee Watershed.” They have collaborated on several groundwater studies in the watershed, and will share their results, and guidance for protecting the critically important aquifer that sits beneath our feet.

About the presenters:

Dr. Robert Newton, Ph. D., Geologist, Hydrologist & Geomorphologist, and Professor of Geosciences at Smith College, was the recipient of the High Watch Award in 2020 from GMCG for his leadership of the 2019 Groundwater Study (the third collaboration with Dr. Newton of its kind, testing over 200 wells across the watershed in 2009, 2016 and 2019) and efforts to prevent further wastewater discharge at Pinetree Power, as well as for his invaluable guidance of GMCG’s watershed research efforts.

Tara Schroeder, Education Coordinator for GMCG, has been working as an environmental educator since 2001, initiating many youth and public citizen science programs during her 10 years with GMCG that bring environmental research into the classroom and living room!

Please register in advance by Wednesday, August 12th, at bit.ly/2020CLCregister.

We look forward to seeing you there!
