News from the CLC Board

Dear CLC Members and Friends,

We write today to let you know that Lynne Flaccus, the Stewardship Director of the Chocorua Lake Conservancy, has informed us that she will be moving on from her post at the CLC in July 2022.

This news will be sad for many of you as it was for us on the CLC Board. Lynne has become an integral and cherished part of our Chocorua Lake Basin community, bringing exceptional professionalism to her job and winning many friends for the CLC through her nature hikes, lake paddles, and informative talks. Such is her way with people that many of us look forward to stewardship days with Lynne and her annual monitoring visits. We were easily convinced to spread wood chips with Lynne in the Grove or Island, or to pull invasive species out of one CLC property or another. For many of us, she has become a good friend.

In the spirit of the season of giving thanks, we’d like to focus, instead, on how well Lynne has positioned the CLC to continue moving forward with our dual missions: to protect the natural beauty of the Chocorua Lake Basin for future generations and to provide public access for visitors and nearby residents. Lynne, since she joined us in 2016 as Stewardship Director and as our first full-time employee in our 50-year history, helped us learn how to become a more effective and professional land trust. She established a culture of caring and consistency in how we steward the 4,000 acres under our charge, and we are grateful.

As we move forward into the future, the culture that Lynne created, and the organization that the CLC is today, will help us to attract talented candidates as we seek someone capable of filling her (figuratively, large) boots. The CLC Board has already appointed a search committee composed of Board members Penny Wheeler Abbott, Sheldon Perry, Andy Fisher, Alex Moot, and Kit Morgan, Chair of our Land Conservation Committee. We welcome your input on this process; you can find all Board member emails here.

Lynne has agreed to serve in a part-time role during a transitional period of the first six months of 2022 and then to help support and train her replacement as needed. In July 2022, Lynne will begin new adventures closer to her Maine home. This position will reunite her daily with her husband, Greg, and substantially reduce her commute time. We are encouraged that, because Lynne still has roots in Tamworth, this is not a permanent departure and that she will, from time to time, still participate in our community. Who knows, maybe we can even twist her arm to lead a nature walk now and then!

Because of the strong foundation that Lynne has built, the CLC Board is very optimistic about the future of the CLC. We are very grateful for Lynne’s service to the CLC and wish her all the very best moving forward.

Regards,

Alex Moot, CLC Board President
